Hygiene standard

Perga-Plastic GmbH Walldürn-Altheim has now received BRC IoP Standard Certification.

On May 26th 2008 we received our Certificate with great pride. At the moment there is no officially recognised ISO Norm for hygiene in food packaging. For this reason we decided to acquire the British standard, set out by the British Retail Consortium / Institute of Packaging. The Norm has the aim of preventing damage to foodstuffs caused by contamination of packaging materials. In the production of packaging materials the regulations of this Norm must be strictly adhered to, i.e. Organization, Hygiene, Production Area conditions, Buildings and Quality Systems. Perga-Plastic was certified by DNV (Det Norske Veritas). With this the production at Perga-Plastic of films and film products made of HDPE, PA and coextrusion materials correspond to the hygiene demands made by the food industry.

Our Employees have contributed to the Success of the Hygiene Certification

Our employees, with their positive attitude, have contributed significantly to the successful achievement and implementation of the system. By means of open discussions the colleagues participated in the process grasped the opportunity to help optimize processes and procedures. The BRC team took up the many suggestions and incorporated them in the process descriptions.

Investment in the Future

According to Ralph Geyer, Head of the DNV Audit team “The company has set up an effective Quality Management System and successfully integrated the demands made by BRC-IoP.“
Bernhard Hansmann, Managing Director: “We shall continue to supply excellent quality in the future using these stable processes and by doing so make an active contribution to sustained economic operations. Beyond that Perga-Plastic GmbH will work towards achieving an Environmental Certification in the near future.“

A Great Step and a Milestone

Martin Wilhems, Managing Director: “Certification is a great step and a milestone for the company. We will now lead by example. With the fulfilment of these hygiene standards we are also confident of gaining new customers, since these standards will help us make an important contribution to our customers being able supply impeccable foodstuffs to their markets.”

Perga-Plastic GmbH has invested about EUR 700.000 in the preparation of the Certification as well as in the necessary changes to equipment and buildings. In the process separating walls and hygiene sluices had to be erected. Fly-guards protect the production areas from insects. Hygiene and glass-protection systems were a pre-requisite of BRC IoP. The company has even adapted the door-lock systems to the new standard.
